Rikki Gann-I Can See
Rikki Gann’s self-titled EP opens up with “I Can See”. It features a melodic acoustic strum. The vocalist, a mellow bluesy singer, sounds fine except for when he goes for vibrato, which makes him sound really unoriginal. He does this often, sadly. The second guitar plays an interesting ditty, making the song mildly interesting. The vocals are definitely the focus though, and it’s a boring song after about a minute and a half because of it. “Realise” opens up on an acoustic strum much like the first song, but the vocals are faster, higher, and better. The song is shorter as well, so it’s not boring. It’s much better than the first, although the annoying vibrato factor still applies. “Take Away My Blues” has the vocals of the first song and an almost country vibe. The chorus is the best sounding part of this CD, because a third guitar appears. It gets stuck in your head….
This CD would be good, but he puts too much stock in his blues vocals and not enough on instruments. There’s some talent, which is shown on the last song especially, but by the end of just three songs the vocals feel old and overused. 4 out of 10.
